Photographing your newborn baby

Photographing your newborn baby

Photographing your newborn baby doesn’t have to be on the way home from the hospital! There seems to be a lot of pressure on new parents to get their baby in for their first photos within the first 2 weeks of life. It is nice to photograph a sleepy, curled up newborn. But in reality for many reasons parents can not always get their family in for photos in this time frame. Not to worry. It is never too late to photograph a baby. I know there are many photographers who refuse to photograph newborns after the first two weeks. However, I am not one of them. I am happy to accommodate a baby for photos at any age. We just adapt to the babies ability and comfort. An older baby has more neck strength which makes them easier to hold and support. Also, older infants are more alert so there are more awake photos, it is nice to see the colour and expression in the babies eyes. I do allow for lots of time in a photo session for feeding and changing diapers and clothes. After a feed a one month old will still fall asleep allowing me to capture the angelic sleeping baby images. I have really enjoyed photographing babies at the 4-6 week age recently, these photos are of a one month old baby. So please do not be discouraged and feel you have missed out by not getting to the photo studio in the first days after delivering your baby. It is never too late to capture special images of your baby. You might get lucky and capture some first smiles!

I look forward to photographing your baby
