The purpose of these photos is to show off your baby bump so wear tight form fitted clothing. Dresses with ruching at the sides helps give more definition. Tops or dresses with stripes accentuate the curves. A form fitted tank works well you can also layer an open sweater or blouse over top. Belts can help to pull fabric in. A button down shirt can be left open to expose skin.
I have a selection of bandos to show skin. I also have a white maternity dress that can be open to show skin or closed for a more modest pose. I do have some fabrics for draping but you may have large scarves or fabrics to bring from home and these can be used again under and around the newborn. It is nice to have before and after photos with the same props for an album or wall display.
Bring a variety of colours to work with some solids and some pattern. You can incorporate pink or blue to suggest your having a girl or boy. I like jewel tones on the back drop. Spring colours and florals are nice if we are taking some of the photos in my private garden studio. In the studio bare feet works well but outside you will need shoes to match your outfits. You may want to bring a few prop such as baby shoes, ultra sound photos, teddy bears, journal, name book or sentimental items inspired by sports, hobbies, interests and heritage. These items can be used in the maternity session and carried over to the newborn session. I also have lots of props in my studio.
Be sure to book your maternity session about five weeks before the due date and newborn photos within the first two weeks. Congratulations!
